PAST FORWARD: Rediscovering and Preserving the Cultural Heritage of the Philippines.

The Philippines has a rich historical background and has diverse cultural landscape that has been developed through generations. Ranging from different indigenous traditions, languages, multiple historical sites, and rich artistic masterpieces. However, the fast-changing world around us may dominate our culture thanks to globalization and modernization. Different cultural aspects of the Philippines are at risk of disappearing thanks to the patronage of foreign culture where its most prevalent on the younger generation supporting their favorite foreign groups, music, way of speaking etc. where they set aside their own culture. Traditional arts and crafts are also disappearing where the very arts that represents us and symbolizes our tradition is removed from various things like jeepneys settling for a more “modernized look.”

Our aim is to reintroduce our cultural heritage to the current and younger generations for them to see how beautiful and diverse their own culture that they have been neglecting. We would also like to preserve our culture for the future generations to see and actively support the local community.

OBJECTIVES:

Education: Develop Creative Educational Programs that teaches the importance of our culture and reintroduces how beautiful our culture is and to promote understanding and develop appreciation among the younger generation.

Community Engagement: Develop a sustainable practice on indigenous communities that develop economic opportunities related to our culture such as ecotourism or community-based handicraft production. This will help reintroduce the beauty of our culture and the workmanship that our people are capable of doing.

Advocacy for Policy Change: Advocate for implementation and reinforcement of laws that protects our culture, traditional knowledge, and the rights of indigenous communities. Additionally, we would also like to advocate sufficient funding and resources for cultural preservation programs to policymakers and government agencies.
